Winter's First Snow 2007

The first snow of the season hits the area. While the Fountain Valley only received a light dusting, the snowfall was much heavier North in Colorado Springs. As inconvenient as snow might be, it did make for some spectacular views in the Garden of the Gods park.

Community Day Parade 2007

The annual Widefield School District #3 parade features floats, bands, and supporters from each of the district's schools. Following the parade is a cookout which benefits Dollars for Scholars and the Widefeild vs. Mesa Ridge football game.

Venetucci Pumpkin Festival

Now in it's second year, the Venetucci Pumpkin festival is a local legacy left to us by Nick & Bambi Venitucci. Their farm has been a source of joy for hundreds of thousands of children since the 1950's, when Nick Venetucci started giving pumpkins to children when he brought them to market in downtown Colorado Springs.

Shortly after giving away pumpkins on Tejon Street, children on a field trip to the farm where each given a pumpkin to take home, starting a tradition that lasts through today. Elementary schools from all over the area take a trip out to the farm to get their free pumpkin. Year after year, children visited the family farm up until 2002, when drought ruined the pumpkin crop.

The tradition was reborn in 2005 thanks to the Pikes Peak Community Foundation, which took control of the farm after Nick Venetucci died in September 2004 at age 93.

With a 5K run, pancake breakfast, fun run for kids, a farm stand, art booths, and hay rides, this event is a great attraction for the Security/Widefield area.
